Scottish Fine Jewellery, from cotton to gold
Ebba Goring’s jewellery; her influences; her world; make for some kind of modern day folk tale. With a golden touch, she turns hand-stitched cotton into the finest gold jewels and so a soft thread is transformed into a textured treasure to be worn and enjoyed for all time.
Fragments of history seem to weave themselves into the precious metal stitches of Ebba’s creations. The castle on the banks of Loch Leven where Mary, Queen of Scots had been imprisoned inspired her core collection of jewellery launched in 2012. Rich and evocative, in contrasting shimmering gold and blackened, oxidized silver; these pieces recall a memory of the queen’s jewels, the sumptuous layers of ornamental cloth in her magisterial costume, and the heady drama of the Elizabethan and Jacobean eras.
Historical inspirations continue in the Gold Room at the Nordiska Museum in Stockholm. Here resides a hoard of ancient Viking treasure where the beauty of simple Nordic forms set against the intricacy of granulation and filigree on metal is striking and has heavily influenced her designs. Ebba’s latest work reinterprets this aesthetic in her signature, stitched style; incorporating recycled and Fair Trade Gold into jewellery with a luxe, Scandinavian feel- settling on paired back motifs filled with intricate textures and studded with gemstones.
Ebba trained at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design in Dundee, graduating in 2009 with a Bachelor degree (Hons) in Jewellery and Metal Design.
Ebba lives and works in the city of Dunfermline on the coast of Fife in Scotland, with her husband and two children.
Following time away from her practice over the last few years working in the wider jewellery sector, Ebba has now opening her books again for commissions. Later this year (2024) she looks forward to sharing a new collection currently in the making.
If you would like to discuss a commission please do get in touch.
