Back to the bench: May 2024
Hello,
I have recently returned to working full time as a maker, a decision I am very excited about. I am delighted to open my books again for commissions and bespoke pieces. Please do get in touch if you would like to discuss either a new design, a remodel of an existing piece, or a custom order of one of my previous designs.
The new workshop is almost fully set up, and I am busy making a new collection of work. I don’t want to rush the development process, enjoying the design process naturally and giving myself time to be able to be rigorous, thorough and more experimental.
Over the last couple of years I have had an increasing compulsion to make. I continued to keep sketchbooks and delve into my sources of inspiration while away from the bench. Through my recent employment I have been lucky enough to work across the Jewellery sector and work alongside some incredible makers, curators, educators and collectors. This experience has increased my knowledge and confidence to make work that is ambitious in its creation, and effectively communicates my artistic vision.
I have always been interested in the transformation and contradiction of materials; cotton to gold, soft malleable textile to hard wearing metal. Looking at the way fabric moves and the way you can also achieve movement in metal. Another feature of my practice is layering of materials and techniques, such as transparent gemstones revealing the highly textured metal below in a stone setting, or past electroformed pieces encasing conductive threads in gold. I use layering in my process of making, starting by creating frameworks to stitch onto, the cotton stitch is then moulded, and lost wax cast, soldered to other handmade components and set with stones, building up layers of process.
I have a few pieces from past collections that I will make available soon, please do sign up to my newsletter to be first in the know.
Great to be back!
